    Altarum is seeking a public health/healthcare analyst or statistician to join the Center for Appropriate Care in Ann Arbor MI or Washington DC. 

    As an Analyst, you’ll be part of a team that works with our client and partners to implement innovative public health and healthcare interventions. You will have the opportunity to use your knowledge of quantitative analysis, passion for improving healthcare, and consulting skills to contribute to multiple projects. Your overall focus will be in helping to develop analysis protocols, analyze quantitative data performing multivariate and multi-level analyses, monitor program data, conduct evaluation activities and report results of statistical analyses.

    As a full-time member of a dynamic consulting group, your specific projects, tasks, and responsibilities will evolve and change over time. During your career at Altarum you will support multiple projects and you’ll definitely be asked to step into different roles on projects. Altarum’s Center for Appropriate Care works directly with healthcare clinicians to promote best practices in the application of information technology to health and health care. We support clinician’s participation in data driven quality and process improvement interventions, participation in quality reporting programs, and develop and provide continuing education offerings for clinicians.  Throughout this work we aim to increase access to health information; improve the organization and usability of health information; improve health care and reduce costs.  Skills in program evaluation and performance measurement are of particular importance in monitoring and evaluating the impact and outcomes of our programs and in meeting reporting responsibilities with our funders.

    Responsibilities

    Under the general direction of project managers and task leads, the Analyst is responsible for supporting the development and execution of evaluation plans, implementing rigorous quantitative analyses, and conducting evaluation activities both internally and externally. Specific responsibilities include the following:

    • Contribute to the design and implementation of evaluations and effectiveness studies to assess the outcomes and performance of interventions and projects.
    • Develop statistical methods to solve specific project questions/problems.
    • Organize and manage databases and files; Process large datasets for statistical modeling and graphic analysis
    • Integrate data from multiple sources including: health care claims; cost and budget data; program participation data, beneficiary population and beneficiary enrollment data.
    • Prepare data for processing by organizing information, checking for any inaccuracies, cleaning data, performing outlier analyses and adjusting and weighting the raw data.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify optimal data sources and statistical analyses to meet project objectives.
    • Participate in weekly and monthly progress reporting based on project deliverables, and continuously identify areas for improvement to exceed the clients’ expectations.
    • Collaborate in the preparation of reports and presentations.
    • Present and interpret evaluation findings for clients, conferences, and professional journals.
    • Write and edit substantive sections of proposals and reports as well as provide input to other facets of the proposal.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the project directors or coordinators and Center leadership.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in statistics, public health, epidemiology, health care economics or related field
    • 5 or more years of experience in public health or healthcare research, data analysis and/or reporting
    • Knowledge of a wide range of research and evaluation methods and processes, including performance measurement, quality improvement, healthcare cost-benefit analysis, quantitative analysis including survey procedures using weighted data, and technical writing
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
    • Experience using SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, or similar statistical packages
    • Ability to work on multiple tasks under different leads
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
