    Altarum is seeking a project manager for our Center for Military and Veterans Health in our Washington DC office. This person would support projects for various clients and will require some travel to client sites in Falls Church, VA.

    The core offerings of Altarum’s Center for Military and Veterans Health include:

    • Survey Science (for Military and Veterans and other vulnerable and publically insured populations)

    • Education and Training

    Responsibilities

    The ideal candidate is a self-starter with at least 5 years of experience leading health research projects. This person will be responsible for managing technical teams to execute tasks outlined in a scope of work for federal, state, commercial and philanthropic clients –managing timelines, budgets, staff, deliverables, and clients. The candidate will utilize available tools to manage simultaneous tasks within and across projects.  The candidate should have a solid understanding of project management skills, health research approaches -both quantitative and qualitative, be comfortable working directly with clients in a fast paced environment, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. To be successful in the role, the candidate must have robust attention to detail and an ability to maintain a positive relationship with project staff and sometimes demanding clients.
     
    Here’s what you’ll be doing

    • Lead a team of Altarum staff to complete project work related to either survey science, advanced analytics or education and training. Many of these projects will be in the domain of military and veteran’s health but not all.  
    • Manage project budgets, timelines and deliverables
    • Estimate level of effort
    • Develop evaluation strategies and help to set measurable objectives for projects
    • Direct and review work of staff across project team
    • Assist team members with troubleshooting technical problems
    • Hold meetings with project staff and with clients
    • Collaborate with project managers/directors; understand when to handle challenges and when to escalate concerns
    • Report to center leadership on status of projects and problems related to meeting performance goals
    • Evaluate, review and recommend tactics for improving deliverables
    • Keep up with trends, requirements, and participate in industry conversations about the subject matter
    • Contribute to proposals and rebidding efforts as needed
    • May directly supervise staff

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 5 years of work experience supporting health care analytics/research projects
    • A minimum of 3 years doing project management
    • Ability to lead project teams in making data-driven decisions for clients
    • Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively
    • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously
    • Collaborative team player who works well as a manager and member of a matrix environment
    • Flexible—willing to do the nitty-gritty work required to make a project successful
    • Positive—ability to collaborate with and promote a positive relationship between colleagues, partners, and clients
    • Experience using Microsoft Office Tools (i.e. Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access, Project)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
    • Military Health experience preferred
    • Survey research experience preferred
