  • Overview

    The successful candidate will lead projects for Altarum’s Center for Behavioral Health.  Altarum’s Center includes projects focused on combatting the opioid crisis, identifying and managing depression, and on prevention, treatment, and recovery from substance use disorders.  Altarum also conducts research and policy analyses on a range of behavioral health topics including access to care, trends in service utilizations and costs. Of particular importance for this position is subject matter expertise to address the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders and other related topics. The successful candidate will provide a range of project management, technical assistance, and strategic planning activities. This position requires working effectively with diverse clients, management, contractors and consultants. You’ll work in a very fast-paced, demanding, but rewarding, research and consulting environment; together with our public and private sector clients, we will serve the public good and improve human health.

    • Lead multidisciplinary teams, drawing on your past experience and subject matter expertise
    • Work directly with clients to ensure that projects are executed successfully and provide clients with high-quality services and deliverables
    • Bring creative ideas to business development and actively participate in submitting proposals and obtaining new projects
    • Author reports, memos, technical assistance tools, issue briefs, webinar presentations
    • Interact with clients, Altarum partners, and the broader behavioral health community to disseminate our work on projects and at conferences
    • Manage day-to-day implementation of project-related activities


    • Master’s degree in public health, behavioral or social sciences preferred with 5+ years of experience; or, a Bachelor’s degree plus 7-10+ years demonstrated relevant experience
    • Excellent knowledge of behavioral health program operations at the federal, state, and local level
    • Ability to provide technical assistance to federal or state programs to improve program operations or outcomes
    • Ability to identify and contribute to new business opportunities
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail; flexibility to lead and manage multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadlines
    • Ability to work as an effective team member as well as independently with minimal supervision
