    The Healthcare Value Hub at Altarum has an exciting opportunity for a part-time research internship for a current graduate student interested in health policy and consumer advocacy. This internship is available May 2018 - June 2019 in the Washington, DC office with the possibility of an extension.

    This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a respected team of advocates and researchers dedicated to protecting consumers with respect to healthcare and health insurance. A particular focus of this position will be policy analysis that addresses rising healthcare costs and value issues.


    About the Healthcare Value Hub:


    With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Healthcare Value Hub helps advocates around the country address healthcare cost and value issues. The Hub supports and connects consumer advocates across the U.S., providing comprehensive fact-based information to help them advocate for change.     The internship is for up to 20 hours per week at $20/hour and may count towards course credit if applicable.


    • Work closely with the Director of Healthcare Value Hub and other team members. 
    • Research primary sources, draft issue briefs, and serve as project manager for longer term projects. 
    • Working with and helping maintain our network of advocates, legislators, regulators, media, and others. 
    • Additional duties include administrative tasks such as helping to prepare documents for distribution, staffing welcome tables at events, assisting in the coordination of monthly webinars, etc. 
    • Researching healthcare value state news/reports for our monthly media report.


    • This internship is available to current graduate students studying health economics, health policy, public health or a related field.
    • A passion for consumer issues and willingness to fight for the rights of consumers.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential. One method by which we increase our impact is by writing in a “voice” that is clear and accessible to advocates, consumers and policymakers who may not be familiar with the relevant policy issues.
    • Strong attention to detail and be able to work independently.
    • Experience with health policy research and analysis.
