Altarum is seeking a Project Manager with excellent analytic skills to join the Center for Payment Innovation (CPI) to help us manage several internally-focused and customer-focused initiatives. The ideal candidate will be able to learn and quickly master sophisticated healthcare analytics developed by Altarum and used by commercial and public sector payers. This position requires self-direction and initiative to improve or resolve issues independently.


CPI is a virtual organization in which employees work remotely or from an Altarum office location. Occasional travel (approx.: 6-8 times per year) may be required. Employees who work from home are expected to have a viable working space and full internet access.


  • Manage projects with multidisciplinary teams, translating between software developers, analysts, and policymakers
  • Represent Altarum in meetings with clients and other contracting organizations
  • Answer technical questions about Altarum software
  • Conduct analyses as needed such as Root Cause Analysis via database queries
  • Create, submit, and track project management documents including business requirements, technical requirements, and level of effort
  • Use web-based management software such as Redmine and JIRA
  • Train and educate peer team members
  • Work with little supervision and collaborate with remote staff to meet deadlines


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s-level or equivalent preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in project management in the healthcare or technology sector
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing medical claims data and a thorough understanding of medical claims coding (such as ICD, CPT, NDC, HCPCS)
  • Prior experience with medical claims groupers strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with data visualization and reporting tools, such as Tableau
  • Knowledge and experience with relational database systems (MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, etc.) is preferred
  • Understanding of clinical data and medical data warehouses is a plus
