Overview

Palladian Partners, an Altarum Institute company, seeks to hire an Outreach and Engagement Manager. You will be responsible for advising senior leadership and managing multifaceted public outreach activities for a national health research program. In this role, you will work as part of an integrated team, and you will need to interact effectively with a broad variety of organizations. Ideal candidates are exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple project deadlines. This position is ideal for candidates who have experience working in outreach and engagement roles at a national level and establishing trusted relationships with diverse advocacy organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operations for tasks related to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of public outreach and health communications programs.
  • Contribute to strategy and goals for outreach and engagement activities; lead areas of tactical implementation.
  • Establish priorities, analyze and resolve problems, and make recommendations about the activities affecting progress toward strategic goals.
  • Support interaction and cooperation with program constituency groups through planning and support of meetings and events, correspondence, and other communication systems to increase information exchange.
  • Develop procedures and methodologies to enhance the effectiveness and quality of work methods and management controls.
  • Assess ongoing operational and communication needs related to outreach efforts; make recommendations to program leadership based on outcomes, including written reports and other requested formats.
  • In coordination with team members, ensure logistical arrangements for large, formal activities and events such as teleconferences, workgroup sessions, training sessions, and routine scheduled meetings are in place and in compliance with participants' needs.
  • In coordination with team members, develop communication plans to promote awareness of recommendations from the outreach and engagement activities.
  • Plan and coordinate meetings of working groups, associations, stakeholder community forums, and ad hoc groups; advise program staff on needed speakers, materials, etc.; develop, prepare or identify materials for meetings, advisory committees, working groups, and other forums; ensure that they are reflective of management's priorities and previous statements; coordinate their distribution to participants.
  • Support development and the conduct of communication studies or evaluations for the purpose of developing new approaches to or refinements of existing outreach and marketing methods to increase awareness of the program.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with health consumers, advocacy or health care groups and other recipients of program information.
  • Manage evaluation by designing assessments (surveys) and gathering and analyzing data required for evaluation of related outreach activities with a goal for program improvement.
  • Identify new audiences and persons who may become recipients of program information; track strategies and tools for public engagement, and participation as those tools and strategies evolve in social media environments.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 3+ years in health and research organizations
  • 10+ years of experience in an outreach and engagement role; at least 3 years in management of outreach activities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated success in establishing trusted relationships with advocacy organizations.
  • Ability to work comfortably under pressure and prioritize multiple work responsibilities, with competing demands, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Anticipates problems ahead of time and takes a proactive approach towards solving them or reporting them to a supervisor.
  • Laser-sharp attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, to respond/react quickly to changing priorities and to be dedicated to completion of required tasks.
  • Ability to initiate and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
